Bis h eute ist dies immer noch eine häufig verwendete Art der Kommunikation. Doch in den Zeiten des modernen Internets haben sich ganz andere Möglichkeiten aufgetan. Neben den E-Mails haben viele Internetnutzer das so called Chaten discovered for themselves. But what exactly is this chat? In every country chatted same? Aber obwohl es eine große Vielfalt an Programmen gibt, haben fast alle ähnliche Möglichkeiten, die den Nutzern geboten werden. Skype, MSN, Gadu-Gadu oder ICQ ermöglichen auch noch den so genannte Voicechat (quasi kostenfreies telefonieren), normale Telefonate und das Versenden sowie Empfangen von SMS. Auch Dateien wie zum Beispiel Fotos oder Musikstücke können ausgetauscht werden. Mit dem MSN Messenger ist sogar Videochat, dass heißt man kann seine gegenüber beim reden via Webcam sehen, möglich.
Für große Firmen ist das Geschäft mit den Messengern schon immer sehr interessant gewesen.
